Pickleball open play Olongapo City
Fair pickleball open play, without the paddle stack
We’re Michael and JP from KKQ and Phōs Pickleball in Olongapo City. We built Kitchen Kings & Queens to run our own open play: one fair line decides who plays next, teams are balanced by level, and everyone sees their spot on their phone.

Why we built it
Our round robin kept falling apart
We used to run open play with a round robin and a paddle rack. It worked on paper. Then real Saturdays happened: someone came late, someone didn’t show up, someone left early, and the lineup fell apart.
Teams ended up unbalanced, some players got more games than others, and we spent more time sorting out who was next than actually playing. So we built our own fix.

Three steps from list to games
-
Step 1: Paste the list
Paste the participant list from Reclub, or type names in. Check people in as they arrive.
-
Step 2: Start, and the courts fill
The app puts a game on every court and lines up the next one on deck, so the next four are ready to go.
-
Step 3: Tap who won
One tap ends a game, saves the result and sends the next group on. Late arrivals, rests and early leavers are a tap too.
For players
Scan the QR code at the courts and tap your name once. Your phone shows the courts, your place in line, and your wins and losses. No account, and no app to install.
What makes it fair
Everyone gets their turn, at their level
-
Nobody gets stuck
Whoever has played the fewest games goes first, then whoever has waited longest. The first person in line always plays in the next game.
-
Games at your level
Beginners play Beginners, and players of similar skill play together, with teams as even as we can make them. Games only mix levels when a level is short.
-
Late or leaving early? Handled
Come late and you join the back of the line, like putting your paddle at the end of the rack. Take a break and you keep your place. Leave mid-game and the app suggests who steps in.
-
Tested before we used it
We tested it on simulated 3-hour open plays with 32 players on 4 courts. The typical wait between games was about 12 minutes, and nobody waited more than 30.
Questions
Questions we get
How does it decide who plays next?
The first person in line always plays. The other three come from the next few in line, picked to keep levels close and teams even. If you get passed over once, you stay at the front and play very soon.
What happens if I arrive late?
You join the back of the line, the same as putting your paddle at the end of the rack. You don’t jump ahead of people who were already waiting, and after that you rotate like everyone else.
Do players need an account?
No. Players scan the QR code at the courts or open the link in the group chat, then tap their name once. Their phone remembers them, and there’s nothing to install.
Can other clubs use it?
Not yet. Right now we run it for our own open play in Olongapo City. Opening it up to other clubs is next on our list.
